In 1897, Mengo hospital opened as the first medical centre in Uganda. After years of its operations in the country, an eye clinic was opened and the first patient to be given optical glasses was Eliphaz Lubindi a resident of Kabalagala Kikubamutwe. Natives started staring at Rubindi because of his glasses and they started referring to 'amaaso ga Lubindi geewunyisa" . Later on many people started getting glasses and people started asking "naawe baaluwadde agaalubindi?" Translated as "You have also been given Lubindi's eyes?" From that time till now, the baganda started calling them galubindi. 🤓🧐🥸😎
